Lion's Paw is a Senior Society whose Actives and Alumni are dedicated to promoting the welfare and perpetuating the traditions of Penn State. The Society achieves this by uniting student leaders across Penn State's campus in order to:
- Provide opportunities for discussion of problems common to the officers of student organizations
- Gain wisdom from group judgment
- Join in devoting themselves to projects which they believe in all humility will contribute to the betterment of the University as a whole

In an effort to preserve the beauty of Mount Nittany, one of Penn State's famous landmarks, the Lion's Paw Alumni Association formed the Mount Nittany Conservancy in the 1980's. The Lion's Paw Medal
As part of its stated purpose "To promote the welfare and best interests and to maintain and perpetuate the traditions of Penn State", the Lion's Paw Alumni Association annually awards the Lion's Paw Medal to persons who have contributed notable service to the University by going above and beyond what is normally expected. Many of these individuals have contributed whole lives of service to better the lives of students, to enhance the quality of education at the University, and to foster the traditions of Penn State.
